Hmmm - something that requires intest physical activity - I know, racing!<div><br /></div><div>So, I headed out to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring">Nürburgring</a> Racetrack in Nurburg, Germany. It was 3.5 hours away from Schipol Airport - perfect!</div><div><br /></div><div>The poor rental car never saw it coming - a 2008 Saab 9-3 1.8t SportCombi (otherwise known as a "station wagon" in the US). I was a bit disappointed, until he hucked the M3 into the second series of corners. Holy crap - talk about g-forces!!! We ended up clicking off a 8:45 lap time - anything faster than 10:00 was considered fast, and boy, was it!</div><div><br /></div><div>I spent 70 Euro for 4 laps, and just went to town. Hammered the Saab pretty badly. The fastest lap was my 3rd lap, as I clicked off a 10:05 (averaging 62 mph!), down from an 11:45 on the first lap. Boy, by the time I was done, the rental car was hammered. On the 4th lap, the brakes were completely faded, the motor had been over revved at least 10 times, and the tires were sticky hot. There was brake dust EVERYWHERE...</div><div><br /></div><div>So, on my way out, I snuck a few photos of the other cars on the race track:</div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2993304345/" title="Nissan Skyline R33 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3073/2993304345_ae542099e6.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Nissan Skyline R33" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2993304345/" title="Nissan Skyline R33 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><br /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Skyline R33 Mid Drift.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2993293761/" title="Pair of Lotus Elises by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/2993293761_873d4e01fc.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Pair of Lotus Elises" /></a><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Pair of Elises.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994145202/" title="Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3286/2994145202_51a22565a3.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Nissan Skyline GT-R R34" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994145202/" title="Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><br /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Skyline R34 GT-R coming out of the corner.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2993294335/" title="BMW M5 Estate E34 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3041/2993294335_642cb3648b.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="BMW M5 Estate E34" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2993294335/" title="BMW M5 Estate E34 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><br /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">BMW M5 Estate - one of my favorite cars.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994142178/" title="Nissan GT-R R35 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3174/2994142178_313794fc15.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Nissan GT-R R35" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994142178/" title="Nissan GT-R R35 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><br /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Skyline R35 on the racetrack already!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994144360/" title="Audi R8 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); "></span></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/2994144360/" title="Audi R8 by Go Denny, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2994144360_e0409e750b.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Audi R8" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center; ">A gen of a car - Audi R8.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">For more pictures:<span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><div style="display: inline !important; "></div></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><div><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/sets/72157608584684309/">http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennyhao/sets/72157608584684309/</a><br /></div><div><br /></div></span></div>Dennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08689355905502680768noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2789943537345522063.post-52129084980012631332008-11-29T00:01:00.000-08:002008-11-29T00:20:53.709-08:00Europe Trip 2008 - The Beginning<div>Work sent me out to Eindhoven, Netherlands for some meetings with our European branch. I figure while I'm there, I might as well take a week off and see Europe too, right? </div><div><br /></div><div>The following itinerary encompassed my two weeks in Europe:</div><div><br /></div><div>October 13: Arrive at Schipol Airport, in Amsterdam at 7:00 AM. I need to find something to do to keep me awake until bed time. I need to fight the urge to sleep. The Nuburgring is rather close – that seems like a great option!!!</div><div><br /></div><div>October 14-16: Meetings at our division in Europe. Man, those days hurt there.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 17: Fly to Copenhagen to visit Margie. I slept the rest of the day…instead of visiting the city.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 18: Fly to Oslo, Norway. </div><div><br /></div><div>October 19: Take the train from Oslo to Flam, then a cruise through the Fjords to Gudvangen. From there, it was the train into Bergen.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 20: Explore Bergen.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 21-22: Roadtrip to explore the Fjords! Drove in the Rental Renault Clio from Bergen to Songdal, doing a loop around the Sognefjord.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 23: Fly back to Copenhagen.</div><div><br /></div><div>October 25: Explore Copenhagen on bike!</div><div><br /></div><div>October 26: Fly back home.</div><div><br /></div>Dennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08689355905502680768noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2789943537345522063.post-67506813070146622262008-11-28T23:34:00.000-08:002008-11-29T00:00:46.556-08:00The Travels of DennyI travel quite bit for work - actually, I travel a LOT. And in my travels, whether personal or for work, I keep a journal of my adventures. Well, there's no real way of sharing my written journal, so I figure this is a good way to keep a record of where I've been. I hope you enjoy!!!Dennyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08689355905502680768noreply@blogger.com0
